Anti-doping officers: it is unusual for athletes to test positive for metenolone

The Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk won the 2012 Olympic gold medal. But the athlete was stripped of the medal because she tested positive for the steroid metenolone (methenolone). She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone presented in both urine samples.
If you read steroid scandals, you must know that competitive sportspeople and bodybuilders are usually caught taking other steroids and/or performance-enhancing drugs. But when it comes to Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she tested positive for metenolone. It is strange, according to statements of anti-doping officers. What does this forbidden preparation represent? Why don’t sportspersons usually apply this medicine for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone belongs to anabolic steroids. It possesses slight androgenic properties. It acts like testosterone, enhancing muscle mass and adding endurance.
Although this drug has only weak androgenic nature, it causes development of sex male features in females. Women who take this preparation may face usual virilizing effects: the voice becomes deeper; hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This preparation may be administered orally or injectionally.
Metenolone (Methenolone) causes amazing effects, when it is taken by athletes during their workouts. It is not administered during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is applied just on the day of a competition.
It is also affirmed that it is easy to detect those that apply this anabolic steroid.
Negative effects of Metenolone (Methenolone) hinge upon measures which are applied. They are following: bloating, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, hirsutism, acne formation, hair loss, irregularities of menstrual cycles, enhanced sex drive, etc.
So, when you see a female athlete who has deep voice and excessive hair growth on the body, you may accuse her of doping. In fact, it is wrong because these problems may occur also in those women that don’t take any steroids. But sometimes these signs demonstrate that certain women use drugs which have androgenic features.
