Does money leads to happiness? Of course, it doesn’t. But money possesses significant power. Although it can’t make you happy, it has capacity to help to avoid jail in some cases. Let review the cases against Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. Someone has probably thought that these persons will lose. But you should remember that rich guys are unlikely to lose. Since they have money, they have a lot of possibilities to win.
Barry Bonds was accused of lying to a grand jury. He claimed under the oath that he had never used any prohibited drugs. It seemed that Barry Bonds’ cheating became obvious and he would be sentenced to jail. But don’t forget: this sportsman has much money. However he was convicted for obstruction of justice, he received only house arrest and community service. Moreover, even this light sentencing was appealed.
Roger Clemens, another sportsman, was charged with lying under oath as well. He said that he had never used any forbidden medications. Ultimately, the baseball player was cleared of all charges. He didn’t lose as well.
These cases demonstrate power of money. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have hired the wisest defense attorneys. Undoubtedly, you need much money in order to hire the best defense attorneys. Since Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have money, they could hire Albert Pujols, Allen Ruby or Rustin Hardy. Thus, it is not surprisingly that federal prosecutors have lost under these circumstances.
Federal prosecutors lost also in other cases. For example, let note the case against the celebrated American cyclist Lance Armstrong. The government made the decision to drop the case because it would lose.
However the government spent much money for these cases, it couldn’t win. Federal prosecutors had just minor results in the cases connected with Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens.
Thus, if you are a professional sportsman/sportswoman, you may use steroids and/or other performance-enhancing drugs, if you have money. You should be rich enough to avoid prison. Otherwise, you will be dishonored and sentenced to prison.
