Variety of steroids

There are three groups of steroids: corticosteroids, estrogens and progestogens, and anabolic-androgenic steroids.
Essence of corticosteroids is similar to that of hormones produced in the adrenal cortex. Corticosteroids may be in form of creams, ointment, inhalation drugs, etc. They are used in case of inflammations, allergic reactions, dysfunctions of respiratory, nervous, musculoskeletal and other systems.
Estrogens and progestogens represent female sex hormones. These hormones induce developing female secondary characteristics. Birth control pills contain these hormones.
Anabolic-androgenic steroids represent preparations which are also widely utilized in medicine. They are able to treat certain types of breast cancer, testicular cancer, anemia, etc. These preparations are frequently recommended to receive better and faster recovery after certain surgeries. Burn victims, persons with HIV/AIDS apply anabolic-androgenic steroids for prevention of muscle wasting. Some steroids are also indicated for treatment of osteoporosis. These drugs are also indicated for treatment of infertility.
Furthermore, anabolic-androgenic steroids are administered for athletic needs. These medicines are capable to stimulate muscle growth and induce enhancing endurance. That’s why a lot of sportspersons and bodybuilders use them for performance-enhancing effects. Some anabolic-androgenic steroids are able also to burn fat, making muscles defined.
Intake of anabolic-androgenic steroids for non-therapeutic purposes is illegal under laws of certain countries. Those who manufacture, distribute, purchase and administer these medicines illegally may be sentenced to prison and/or fines. These medicines belong to illegal substances in some countries because they may cause various unwanted reactions. While several adverse consequences are slight and disappear after discontinuation of application, others are sever and even irreversible. Those that want to obtain benefits, using steroids for therapeutic purposes, should use these products under instructions of doctors.
